A couple of hours before a press conference reveals the theme of the 4th Women's Day, the news is announced that doctor Willy Peers would be sued again for performing illegal abortions. Doctor Peers was very controversial at that time: in a time when abortions were prohibited, he continued to carry them out.
According to the Action Committee which organized the Women's Day, the patronizing and condemnation of women had to stop. Four claims were made public:
After November 11th other actions would follow. On March 5th 1977, 7.000 demonstrators marched the streets of Brussels in order to withdraw abortion from criminal law.
