In October 2006, RoSa Documentation Centre launched an informative website intended for single parents and social workers in Flanders.
The number of single parents in Flanders is constantly on the rise. In 2006, more than 10% of all Flemish households were single parent families. Research indicates that they are more at risk of ending up in poverty than any other household type. In single parenthood families there is only one breadwinner to bear the costs of maintaining a household.
Either by choice or by loss, single parenthood families are confronted more seriously with a number of difficult situations, such as combining paid work and parenting, getting organized, coping with emotions, with limited financial means, finding affordable child care, etc.
To help single parents figuring out what benefits, social security measures, legal means, etc. they are entitled to in Flanders, the online platform "alleenstaande ouder" has been developed by RoSa Documentation Centre. It offers easy access to useful information in the field of relations, money, health, household, children, (un)employment and housing.
